Wells Fargo's employees can no longer access TikTok on company phones after the firm cited security reasons as one of its major concerns.

TikTok is now on Wells Fargo's banned list after employees reportedly installed the popular social media platform on company devices. The established financial services firm attributed the ban to potential security risks, among other reasons. The ban comes just days after ubiquitous online retailer, Amazon, ordered its employees to delete TikTok for similar reasons, before then stating that the ban order was sent out by mistake.

The widely utilized social media platform has been routinely hitting the headlines recently after having become embroiled in a number of controversial issues. TikTok's meteoric rise is now being hampered by various companies and agencies constantly questioning its security and credibility. Aside from Wells Fargo, India has already banned TikTok, accusing the app of stealing data and chastising its questionable practices as a risk to the privacy of its users. In addition, the US is also considering similar actions. These security concerns have become so prevalent that the company is reportedly considering how it can distance itself from its Chinese roots, in an attempt to revitalize its image.

According to CNN, TikTok ended up on Wells Fargo's ban list after a “small number” of employees installed the app on corporate devices. A company spokesperson cited TikTok's “privacy and security controls and practices” as one of the reasons for the ban. In addition, the spokesperson also stressed that company-owned devices were meant to be used strictly for work-related purposes. Despite TikTok being relegated from Wells Fargo corporate devices, a TikTok spokesperson insisted that the popular social media platform is still opening its doors to the company, expressing its openness to share with Wells Fargo the various steps it's taking to ensure the security and safety of user data.
