Apple's Camera Indicator A Better Option

Apple's advise against the use of third-party camera covers comes as a result of several complaints by MacBook users over shattered displays. Additionally, the newer models are packed with ambient light sensors that control automatic brightness for the True Tone feature to work. Apple has stated that if you still prefer using a camera cover, make sure that it is less than 0.1 mm in thickness, and avoid the use of regular scotch tape that would leave behind residue from the adhesive.

However, asking users to blindly trust the tiny green light indicator for the web camera might not be a comforting approach for privacy-first users. Apple has designed the camera and the light indicator to work in parallel, which means that the camera won't turn on without the light turning on first. Although the fact that the tiny light isn't always noticeable is why Apple MacBook users still prefer physically blocking the view of the web camera.
