Apple:

Apple has issued a new warning advising against the use of a camera cover on the MacBook series, saying it could crack the display when closed.

decisions:

Apple has advised that closing a MacBook with a camera cover attached could inadvertently damage the display. The company issued the warning through a new support document on the official website, and even though camera covers are seen as a way for consumers to preserve their privacy, Apple advises that the use of the camera indicator is a better and safer option.

Consumers concerned about their privacy tend to trust Apple since it has been steadfast in developing a robust layer of security, but no software is entirely infallible. Webcam hijacks are a common phenomenon, which has forced millions of users into simply blocking the view of the laptop's front camera with a piece of tape. Apple MacBook owners do also have the option of a more stylish approach with a custom camera cover, although the company is now offering a direct disclaimer towards the use of these privacy protection accessories.

apple rumors :

Spotted by MacRumors, Apple has added a support document for the MacBook, MacBook Air, and MacBook Pro series of laptops. The statement directly discourages the use of camera covers. Apple suggests that closing the lid of one of the products with the camera cover installed could damage the display, since there isn't a whole lot of clearance space between the screen and the keyboard. The added thickness of the camera cover, even by a few millimetres, could push up against the display panel of the MacBook and place unwanted pressure on the glass panel. As a result, and as an alternative to using the camera cover, Apple explains the camera indicator light built into every MacBook model is a safer option for determining when the camera is on.
