The Old Guard star Charlize Theron hints at story details and the return of an unexplored character in a possible sequel to the hit Netflix film.Charlize Theron teased some plot details regarding a possible The Old Guard 2. Fans of the Netflix action fantasy movie are curious as to what's in store for these characters after the events of the first film. The Old Guard was originally a graphic novel written by Greg Rucka and Leandro Fernández. Greg Rucka went on to write the screenplay for the movie, with Love and Basketball's Gina Prince-Bythewood directing.
The Old Guard follows Charlize Theron as Andromache "Andy" of Scythia, a centuries-old fighter with the ability to regenerate. She leads a group of immortal beings just like her, and they use their skills and experience as warriors to fight in conflicts and help people around the world. When a mission to rescue a group of kidnapped children in South Sudan goes south, they discover that an executive wants to find a way to use their immortality in pharmaceuticals, to make a fortune. They also learn that there is another person with the ability to heal like them, a United States Marine named Nile (Kiki Layne). The film has been generally praised by critics, mostly for its intense action scenes and LGBTQ representation.
After the success of The Old Guard after just a few weeks on Netflix, people are curious as to if a sequel will happen. The end of the movie set up the possibility for another adventure, and star Charlize Theron shared some details about a possible The Old Guard 2 on Late Night with Seth Meyers. When host Seth Meyers inquired about a continuation of the story based on the comics, Theron expressed her excitement about revisiting an unexplored character and new storylines. "The character of Quynh is kind of teased in this. She’s Andy’s kind of right-hand person. She was, the two of them, were the first. There’s obviously a relationship there that we didn’t really explore in this film."

"

Theron also mentioned her enthusiasm for working with several women on set. Her co-star and the director of the film are both women, and Quynh is a female character that will play a huge part in a possible sequel. "So, I’m excited if we get the chance to make another one, to explore that because then we’re just adding another female into the mix, which I think will make it really interesting." She noted that with her enthusiasm also came disappointment, as it shouldn't be rare that there are so many women involved in a film due to the number of talented women in Hollywood.

Since its release, The Old Guard has become one of Netflix's most popular films. According to Netflix, the film will soon reach 72 million households in its first four weeks on the platform. Extraction, a violent action thriller starring Chris Hemsworth, was released earlier this summer and became Netflix's most-watched original film ever. As The Old Guard is on pace to overtake Extraction's view count, Netflix is sure to announce a sequel any day now.
