Rian Johnson Takes Over Knives Out Twitter Account After His Gets Deleted

Knives Out writer and director Rian Johnson takes over the movie's Twitter account after his personal page is deactivated during a Bitcoin hack.

Rian Johnson, the Oscar-nominated writer and director of 2019's hit film Knives Out, had his personal Twitter account deleted during the recent Bitcoin hack — and since, Johnson has been using the official Knives Out Twitter account instead. On Wednesday afternoon, many high-profile Twitter accounts shared tweets asking for money to be sent to one Bitcoin address. Those hacked included Elon Musk, Joe Biden, Kanye West and Barack Obama.

Some of the fake tweets, including those on Musk's account, claimed that donations sent to this Bitcoin address would be doubled in a show of charity during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, it soon became clear this was a scam, as hundreds of similar tweets began cropping up. That didn't stop mass panic from ensuing across Twitter, though. People began sharing doctored information about how much money had been sent to the Bitcoin address, while Twitter moved to block verified accounts from tweeting at all.

It may seem unfortunate that Johnson was affected by the scam, but the director is clearly making the best of the situation. On Thursday, Johnson tweeted from the Knives Out account, "until I get my main account back I'm tweeting here," and the fans went wild. At first it wasn't clear who exactly had taken over, but once Twitter users realized Johnson's account had been deactivated, they put two and two together. So far, there's only been one other Knives Out tweet after Johnson's account was deactivated, and it's in line with what one would expect from the entertaining account.

Check out both tweets below:

This move comes on the heels of the Knives Out Twitter account having a hilarious feud with an Ana de Armas updates account.

de Armas, who starred in the movie, blocked ArmasUpdates in April, and the Knives Out account later followed suit. The de Armas updates account then blocked the Knives Out account, and the whole thing snowballed into a goofy distraction from 2020's problems. Knives Out eventually unblocked Armas Updates, proving happy endings do exist.

Since the release of Knives Out last year, the movie's account has often been used to poke fun at others on Twitter or at the film itself. With Johnson now at the helm, it certainly seems like he's going to continue the chaotic fun the Knives Out account previously served. His takeover is also a good way to get audiences even more excited for the upcoming Knives Out sequel. Hopefully, Johnson's account will be restored soon, but in the meantime, it's fun to see him lend his comedic wit to the Knives Out account.
