Netflix reveals its 10 most-watched original movies to date

About 99 million people probably watched at least two minutes of Extraction
project power

Inch by inch, Netflix is pulling back the curtain on its numbers.
Ahead of its second quarter earnings call on Thursday, the streaming company released a list of its 10 most streamed movies to Bloomberg. The reported tallies are based on the number of accounts that hit play in the first four weeks of the film’s debut. In previous metrics, Netflix counted a “viewer” as anyone who watched at least two minutes of the content, though it’s unclear if the list provided to Bloomberg uses the same measurements. Topping off the list is last April’s Extraction, starring Chris Hemsworth, with 2018’s infamous Bird Box coming in second.

1.Extraction (99M)
2.Bird Box (89M)
3.Spenser Confidential (85M)
4.6 Underground (83M)
5.Murder Mystery (73M)
6.The Irishman (64M)
7.Triple Frontier (63M)
8.The Wrong Missy (59M)
9.The Platform (56M)
10.The Perfect Date (48M)

The list is clustered with action movies, with Netflix titan Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston comedy Murder Mystery sneaking up into the top 5 and Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman coming in right after. Most of the top-viewed original movies come from the past few years, which make sense given Netflix’s surge in viewership
As theaters around the country remain closed and production only begins to ramp up again, it’s likely that Netflix numbers will continue to climb.

What if superpowers were temporary? Project Power, the new science-fiction thriller from Viral and Nerve directors Ariel Schulman and Henry Joost, proposes a world in which superpowers are activated by taking a pill — and can only be used for five minutes at a time. On top of that, nobody knows what superpower they’ll manifest until they actually try the pill, and it can potentially kill whoever takes it.

Jamie Foxx stars as a former soldier whose daughter has been kidnapped by the people pushing the new drug. He teams up with Art (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) and Robin (Dominique Fishback), a local cop and a teenage drug dealer, in his quest to get his daughter back. In order to give themselves a fighting chance, they take the pill themselves, tracking down the source of the drug on the streets of New Orleans.

Rodrigo Santoro, Courtney B. Vance, Amy Landecker, Allen Maldonado, and Machine Gun Kelly also star.

The film will hit Netflix on Aug. 14.
