Ryan Reynolds posted a screenshot on Instagram showing how he slipped an Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark reference into Deadpool 2. Reynolds was responsible for bringing the Merc With A Mouth to the big screen thanks to his tireless campaigning to take on the role, and the two resultant movies were box office smashes, making hundreds of millions of dollars.

Reynolds perfectly embodies the R-rated superhero, and he has ensured that the eccentric immortal mutant has become a fan favorite among movie lovers. One of the standout features of Deadpool and Deadpool 2 has been the humorous pop culture references, with everything from Swedish furniture store Ikea to Reynolds' appearance as Green Lantern being ridiculed. And now we can add one more reference to the list.
In a series of posts on his Instagram stories over the weekend, Reynolds posted several previously unseen shots from the behind the scenes, including one that revealed a hidden Indiana Jones Easter Egg. Reynolds posted a shot from Deadpool 2, featuring the scene where Deadpool runs away from a group of henchmen while shouting at Dopinder (Karan Soni) to start his car. He explained the scene that inspired it was from Raiders of the Lost Ark, where Indy (Harrison Ford) is running away from a bunch of Amazonian warriors while screaming at his pilot Jock (Fred Sorenson) to start the engines of the plane. You can see the stories below.

When you watch the scenes side-by-side, the reference is relatively apparent, as the scenes follow almost exactly the same format, and share dialog. But the reference may have eluded some who were watching Deadpool 2 in the theater. However, it's fun to have Reynolds confirm the link to Raiders Of The Lost Ark.

Reynolds has proven time and again that the Deadpool franchise is his passion project, as it allows him to combine his trademark sardonic wit with some over-the-top action sequences that show off his physicality. And now we know that he also pours his love of 1980s adventure films into the franchise too. As a man in his 40s, the Indiana Jones movies would have been released during Reynolds' childhood, and clearly made an indelible impression on the actor.

And who knows, with the prospect of a Deadpool 3 still upcoming, we could see some references to classic 80s adventure movies. It would be great to see Wade Wilson referencing more beloved films of the era, like the original Star Wars movies, E.T, or Back To The Future.
